Stress is a common issue for students in today's fast paced society. It can negatively impact their academic performance as well as their physical health if not properly managed. There are many factors that contribute to a student's stress. Ultimately, the three main causes for stress among students are academic pressure, financial pressure and social pressure. Firstly, academic pressure is a main contributor to stress among students. College students, who may have only studied under strict parental supervision, would struggle to manage their new-found freedom. Consequently, homework may pile up resulting in compounded stress in the future. Therefore, academic pressure is a major cause for stress among students. Secondly, financial security contributes substantially to stress among tertiary students. This is because less well-off students often rely on scholarships and part-time jobs to afford tuition. As a result, they are required to maintain their grades in addition to balancing their working hours with classroom hours, leaving little time for respite. Consequently, this mentally and physically taxing endeavor leaves students very stressed. Therefore, financial security is a major cause of stress among students. Lastly, social pressure is a main contributor to stress among students. Students may not be able to balance their social life with their academic life. As a result, they may end up behind in class, leaving them stressed. For example, students may get invited to do an activity with friends, resulting in less time for studying. Consequently, they may fail their exams. Therefore, social pressure is a major cause of stress among students. In conclusion, students face many adversities that cause stress. Academic pressure, financial security and social pressure all play major roles in adding to students' stress. Therefore, students should learn to manage these three factors so they can prevent the added stress.
